This is a conceptual tool for calculating the Grant Element (GE) of a loan. It is designed to analyze the concessionality of debt by comparing the present value of repayments to the face value of the loan. It's a useful learning tool to grasp the basics of debt analysis.
  • Discount rate (set by IMF/WB for DSA; usually 5% in recent frameworks)
  • GE ≥ 35% → Loan is considered concessional (soft loan).
  • GE < 35% → Loan is non-concessional.
